I like to have the Piggs help me with some of the Christmas Gifts each year. This year, I got my idea from the High Five Magazine Pigg#1 gets each month. Here's what you do.
Buy a box of Fruit Loops...or store brand fruit rings.

Sort all the colors into bowls. This took Pigg#1 and I a good half hour to do. But he stayed interested for most of the time...giggling when he 'accidentally' put one in the wrong bowl.
Put 'em in separate ziploc bags...
And SMASH them to smithereens. I had to help Pigg#1 with this one and eventually take over. It took more skill than I thought it would.
Keep Smashing.
Stop when you end up with dust/crumbs. I found it helpful to double bag when I was smashing so my bags didn't break as much.
Admire the lovely colors.
Then fill jars with the cereal, putting in layers. I like to use old baby food jars, jars from jam and jelly, and other random jars I collect. You have to clean off the labels and that probably takes the most time. I get grumpy when my Goo-Gone is missing.
Keep layering until the jar is full.
Tie a pretty ribbon, cover the top of the jar, or fancy it up some other way.
And try to keep you kids from shaking them up and down...mixing the colors. :) Now it's a special treat to sprinkle on yogurt (or ice cream) and your kids helped do it.
