Cape tutorial

So this is how I made the CTR Boy cape from this post.

Start with an old dress shirt.  This particular one is pink because it's for Pigg#2.  She keeps putting on Pigg#1's backwards and tripping on the long cape.  I'm sure she'll use it to join in Pigg #1's superhero games.

Cut the sleeves off and then cut up the side seams in whatever shape you want the cape to have.
Mine is a slight A-line and it extends beyond the side seam into the front of the shirt.
Then cut a straight line a few inches above the seam across the back.

Sew a double fold or rolled hem up the sides and then make a casing at the top.  I made my casing such that the seam for the casing went right over the seam that went across the back.
There's the casing.  Side seam first, then the casing.
Slide your elastic through the casing, size it, and sew the ends together to make a circle of elastic.  When I thread my elastic, I like to poke a safety pin through one end of the elastic and then push the safety pin through the casing.  The safety pin then pulls the elastic through after.

Then you can slip it over your child's head and let them run.  The great thing is they can get it on and off them selves without needing mommy's help.  No ties, velcro, snaps, or other frustrating closures.
When the world needs saving, you gotta move quick!
